ISRO to increase its man power in VSSC: Madhavan Nair

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 15 (UNI) Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) Chairman G Madhavan Nair today said the ISRO would increase its Human resources at the Vikram Sarabai Space Centre at Thumpa, near here.

In his presidential address, in connection with a workshop on ''Space Technology Utilisation for Development of Kerala State-- Progress Plans till 2010'', he said about 200 people would be recruited for the VSSC in technical specialisation agencies and other units every year.

Mr Nair said about 50 per cent of the Human Resources in the ISRO was from Kerala and about 7,000 people were working in the VSSC.

Stating that the ISRO had implemented various new projects with the cooperation of industrial units in the state, the ISRO chief said it had provided orders for Rs 50 crore to big and small industrial units.

Pointing out the huge potential of nurses in the state, he said through tele net work, nursing education could be made more effective.

Since the state did not have sufficient nursing teaching staff and nursing colleges, bringing each district hospital under the tele net work would help in providing nursing classes from the nursing colleges, which would benefit thousands of students, the ISRO chief added.

After completing the successful education, the nurses could be appointed in the district hospital and hence the human resources investment in this regard could be developed, he suggested.

Appreciating the development of education through tele-education in the state, he said ISRO would try to reach the facility in all backward areas.

Mr Nair said the ISRO was ready to provide all equipments in this regard and urged Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan to take initiatives.

Inaugurating the workshop, Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan said both the government and the VSSC had agreed to work together in choosing the space technology for the development of the state.

He said the government would set up 'Receive Only Terminal' in 400 schools in Malappuram and Kasargod and 800 other centers in the state.

To spread the working of educsat, 20 more Sataliite Interactive Terminals would be installed in 20 more districts and SIT in 21 Engineering colleges, he added.
