India U-19 beat Pak by innings and 240 runs

Peshawar, Sep 15 (UNI) Spin twins Piyush Chawla and Shahbaz Nadeem claimed three wickets apiece as Indian under-19 team spanked their Pakistani counterparts by an innings and 240 runs with a day to spare in the four-day match here today.

After the Indian colts declared their first innings at a mammoth 611 for nine, the hosts had a mountain to climb and their first innings collapsed for a paltry 154 with Ishant Sharma claiming four for 20 in his impressive 13 overs.

Following on, Pakistan lost opener Ahmed Shehzad (2) early in the innings as Nadeem got him caught by Chawla. That was an ominous sign for the hosts who lose wickets at regular intervals with only Riaz Kail (83) and down the order Reza Rehman (48 not out) putting up defiant shows.

Once Riaz was removed by Ishant, the writing was clear on the wall for Pakistan and Reza's gritty knock was just a vain attempt to delay the inevitable. Pakistan U-19 were all out for 217 in their second essay.

Nadeem's second innings figures read 24-8-53-3 while Chawla, who hit 146 in the Indian innings, finished with three wickets for 72 runs in his 27 overs in Pakistan's second innings.
