Haryana to set up post-harvest facilties in mandis
Chandigarh, Sep 15 (UNI) The Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board plans to set up a chain of post-harvest management facilities in various mandis of the state.
These would include refrigerated vans, cold chambers, atorage, grading or sorting and packaging facilities for farmers said Chief Minister Bhupuinder Singh Hooda after laying the foundation stone of a 'Kisan Bhawan' in Panchkula near here today.
Agriculture Minister H S Chatha said, with the introduction of post-harvest facilities, not only the post-harvest losses would be minimised but value of the produce would also be enhanced.
Besides, supply of fresh fruits and vegetables would be ensured to the consumers on competitive rates through markets of farmers.
Haryana State Agricultural Marketing Board Chairman Shadi Lal Batra said the Kisan Bhawan would have a covered area of 35,000 sq feet and provide excellent accommodation to the farmers visiting the state capital.
It would also be a hub for various activities like conferences, seminars, workshops and exhibitions related to agriculture and marketing of agricultural produce. It would have IT enabled facilities on agriculture. UNI MA SRS RS1736
