Four yout loot Rs 8.5 lakh from bank, one held

Chandigarh, Sep 15 (UNI) Four youths today looted Rs 8.5 lakhs from the Centurian Bank of Punjab, Sector 9 branch, here this afternoon, police said.

One of the youth was apprehended by the public when he was fleeing with the money from the bank, while his other three accomplices managed to escape.

Police, however recovered Rs three lakhs from the youth identified as Gopi, 24 of Tamil Nadu.

About the modus operandi of the heist, police said that three of four youths, who entered the bank, started diverting the attention of the staff on different pretexts, while one of them managed to pick bundles of currency notes lying on one of the tables.

The youths immediately ran away with the cash but one of them was caught by the staff and public.

The Police have registered a case under section 380 of the IPC against the accused and further investigations are on to nab the remaining culprits.
