Five killed in Gaza City shooting attack

GAZA, Sep 15 (Reuters) Unidentified gunmen killed five Palestinians in a shooting today near the Gaza home of Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas, residents said.

Some of those killed were believed to be members of Palestinian security forces, they said.

The drive by shooting took place in an area known as Beach Camp near Haniyeh's heavily guarded compound. There was no immediate claim of responsibility or suggestion of Israeli involvement.

Gaza has been beset by sporatic bouts of violence between rival factions, including the ruling Hamas movement and President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party.

Haniyeh reached an agreement earlier this week with Abbas on forming a coalition government aimed at ending an international aid embargo and halting violence among Palestinians.
