Female population increases in Tripura

Agartala, Sep 15 (UNI) The percentage of women in this North-Eastern state has increased to 975 among every 1000 males, according to the 2001 census.

According to a official release here today, the number of females were 967 in every 1,000 males in the 1991 census.

At the national level the number of females in every thousand males were 945 during 1991 and it came down at 927, according to the 2001 census report.

In the entire NE region Sikkim was on the top with a record 986 females in every 1000 males followed by Nagaland and Tripura (975 females for every 1000 males), Mizoram (971 famales for every 1000 males), Manipur (961 females for every 1000 males) and Meghalaya (975 females in every 1000 males), according to the 2001 census.

The release also said that there were 44 ultra sonography units in the state. Of them 15 were in government level.

It said there was no such unit without registration in the state and no case had so far been filed. The respective authorities were regularly visiting all the sonography units for an on the spot study, the release added.
