Federer to play in Japan Open for first time
TOKYO, Sep 15 (Reuters) World number one Roger Federer will make his tournament debut in Japan at next month's Japan Open, organisers said today.
The Swiss heads the 765,000 dollar men's tournament in Tokyo following his third straight triumph at the US Open. The tournament runs from October 2-8.
Federer won three of the four grand slam singles titles in 2006 and was a finalist at the French Open.
Britons Andy Murray and Tim Henman will also be among a high-profile field in Japan, along with Australian Open runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.
Russia's Maria Kirilenko heads the field in the 175,000 dllar women's tournament.
