e-learning can increase quality of education : Aziz
Kochi, Sep 15 (UNI) Vice-chancellor of the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) P K Abdul Aziz today said the scope of e-learning should be utilised to increase the spread and quality of the primary, secondary and tertiary education in the country.
Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the International Workshop on e-Learning based Continuing Education here, Mr Aziz said, e-learning can play an important role in equipping the graduates to face the present day challenges in employment.
He said the primary, secondary and tertiary education should be spruced up and e-learning can help to improve the quality of education.
While in India only seven per cent of the population have the opportunity to go for higher education, it was almost 30 per cent in developed nations, he opined.
The three-day workshop is jointly organised by CUSAT and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) to develop course content for e-learning for continuing education.
Dr Mohandas B Menon, Education specialist of COL, said more e-learning content should be developed to exploit the available facilities in information technology.
He said e-learning would belp in improving the skills of adults especially those working in the education sector.
More than 50 experts in continuing education from different Indian institutes and from Canada, Australia, Sri Lanka, England and South Africa are participating in the workshop to share their experiences and present case studies related to e-learning and its applications in continuing education.
The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, IGNOU, Centre for Environment Education, Ahmedabad, Department of Education Teaching, SNDT, Mumbai, Regional Institute of Education, Mysore, and Centres of Adult Education, Pune University and JNU are taking part in the workshop.
