Cong to move court on RSS issue
Bhopal, Sep 15 (UNI) Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Jamuna Devi today warned that the Congress might challenge the BJP regime's order lifting a ban on government officials taking part in RSS activities.
In a memorandum to Governor Balram Jakhar, the tribal leader urged him to act against the order.
''The government's step is against the spirit of the Constitution. Obedience of such an order could imperil the state's law and order situation. It is generating apprehension in a secular community and politicising officials. The order will vitiate communal harmony and endanger the social fabric,'' she said in the memo.
Ms Devi later told mediapersons that legal opinion was being sought vis-a-vis the order and it might be challenged in court by her party.
The memo explained that the ban had been imposed so that officials impartially fulfilled responsibilities while following rules and keeping within democratic limits.
''The Sangh is not a cultural organisation but a body unalloyedly involved in political activities. Its basis is fascism and communal politics,'' she added.
Denouncing the passage of the order in the centenary year of Mahatma Gandhi's South Africa satyagraha, the Congress leader said such a ban was not lifted in any oher state.
