Boeing MRO unit to start functioning in Nagpur from next year

Nagpur, Sep 15 (UNI) US-based Boeing Commercial Airlines' Boeing Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) unit will start its functioning at the proposed Cargo Hub site near Nagpur Airport from next year.

Boeing's Senior Vice-President Dinesh Keskar today told mediapersons that he along with the officials of the Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) surveyed the land required for MRO for which Rs 500 crore would be invested.

''We require 70 to 100 acre of land and MADC has agreed for it.

We prefer the land in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the MIHAN poject,'' he said.

He said MRO base would be fully developed in three phases and its first phase would be completed within 8 to 12 months after the land is handed over to Beoing. The facility to repair three big and equal number of small size flights within the country at the initial stage would be made available, he said and added that the project would involve 99 per cent Indian employess.

Mr Keskar also assured that aviation training centre would also be set up within two or three years to produce good pilots.
