BJP to go alone in UP polls (WITH DR 20)

Lucknow, Sep 15 (UNI) Ruling out any pre-poll electoral adjustment, post-poll support or coalition, the state executive of BJP today vowed to regain power in Uttar Pradesh on its own.

''We will form the government if BJP gets majority. Else, we will sit in the opposition,'' party national vice president and in charge of UP party affairs Kalyan Singh said addressing the concluding session of day-long state executive.

The meeting was attended by senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi, state president Kesari Nath Tripathi, national general secretary Sanjay Joshi and other senior state leaders.

Mr Singh said the die was cast in favour of BJP in the coming assembly polls as the Samajwadi Party mis-governance and the equally bad alternative parties like BSP had left the electorate with no choice but to support BJP.

''Under no circumstances BJP will forge any understanding with any party in the coming polls,'' the senior BJP leader said thus putting to a rest all speculations.

BJP had forged alliance with BSP in the past.

Making a strong case of party workers in UP, Mr Singh minced no words in declaring that the party cadre was not given its due in the past and they had every reason to feel discontended. ''Now the party workers would be supreme and given proper attention by the leadership,'' he assured.

Exhorting the cadre to keep themselves in state of preparedness, he said this was the best time to make efforts to restore power in UP. ''Once UP is ours, the throne of Delhi would not be far behind,'' he observed.

The former UP Chief Minister said the corrupt governance of Mulayam Singh Yadav-led government, coupled with the worst ever law and order situation, would be the cause of the undoings of the SP government in the state.

Mr Singh turned down, though politely, the offer of the party leadership about his projection as UP Chief Minister. ''The next assembly polls in UP would be fought on collective basis, but the failure would be mine,'' he announced.

He was critical of the Mulayam government's ''communal polity'' saying the vote politics had forced the SP to adopt the policy of Muslim appeasement. ''The appeasement can be countered only with 'Prakhar Hindutva' (staunch Hinduism),'' he asserted.
