Army distributes essential items to Manipur villages

Imphal, Sep 15 (UNI) The army and administration distributed essential items in Sajik Tampak village in Manipur's Chandel district near the Manipur-Myanmar border, which has been declared a ''liberated'' zone by militants.

Official sources said troops of 10 Assam Rifles had been posted in the area and they had donated a school bus to the villagers.

Deputy Commissioner of the district Norbert Disinang also visited the village yesterday and distributed essential items to the villagers. A public meeting was also organised at the premises of the Assam Rifles, which was addressed by the Deputy Commissioner.

The DC assured to take up development activities in the area.

During his visit, the DC was accompanied by the Chandel Superintendent of Police.

Mr Disinang distributed three bags of common salt and two bags of dal to the villagers, free of cost.

The school bus donated by the Assam Rifles would run from Glengai to Sajik Tampak.
