116 taluks in K'taka declared as drought-hit

Bangalore, Sep 15 (UNI) The Karnataka Government has declared 116 taluks as drought-hit after receiving deficit rainfall, Home Minister M P Prakash said today.

Talking to reporters after a meeting of officials of the district administration and Zilla Panchayats here, he said the Government had planned to release Rs ten lakh for each taluk to take up relief works immediately.

Mr Prakash said the Government had also released Rs 42 crore for repairing the infrastructure facilities damaged in the flood-hit districts.

He said the Government had planned to take up developmental works in the naxal-infested areas. The Chief Minister had instructed the district officials to realise their responsibilities and take necessary action to ensure that the State was free from the menace.
