Centre empowers Delhi govt to notify commercial/mixed use roads

New Delhi, Sep 14 (UNI) Way has been paved for the final notification of the new commercial/mixed land use roads designated by the MCD, to give relief to lakhs of small traders from sealing, with the Union government tonight issuing a correigendum in the Municipal Act which empowers the Delhi Government to issue a notification of revised mixed use norms.

''The Centre has issued a corrigendum in the section 3C of the relevant act, read with section 5. It empowers the Delhi government to issue notification,''a spokesperson of the Delhi government said.

He said the state Government would act (to issue notification on new commercial/mixed use areas) tomorrow.

Despite the MCD designating nearly 2000 roads in E, F and G colonies in Delhi as commercial/mixed use areas and another 204 roads, including those in C and D colonies, today, the Delhi government is yet to notify the roads. For, under the MCD Act, changing land use can only be done by the Centre.

Hence, it would have been legally difficult for the state Government to issue a gazette notification on new commercial and mixed use areas.

However, with the Centre issuing a corrigendum under the relevant act, way has been paved for notification by the State Government of the commercial and mixed use roads before the September 16 deadline issued by the Supreme Court to the MCD to seal shops in residential areas of Delhi to provide relief to lakhs of small trader who have been dreading the sealing of their shops once the deadline expires.
