Punjab assembly to have crucial pre-poll session

Chandigarh, Sep 13 (UNI) A two-day crucial session of Punjab Vidhan Sabha, which could be the last one before the coming assembly polls in the state, will commence tomorrow.

While the ruling Congress is expected to highlight the development works undertaken during its tenure, the opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and its ally BJP are likely to mount an offensive against the Amarinder Singh government for its various controversial decisions.

Elections to the 117-member assembly are due in February next.

On the emotive Sutlej-Yamuna Link (SYL) issue, the Congress government may also showcase among its achievements the Termination of Water Agreements Act that helped Punjab avoid sharing Ravi-Beas waters with Haryana.

The SAD-BJP alliance will take the government to the task on the controversial deal with the Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) wherein the company would invest Rs 500 crore to develop agricultural hubs across the state.

The opposition is also likely to raise a storm over the Rs 3000 crore City Centre expose in Ludhiana. The SAD has already demanded a CBI probe and the Chief Minister's resignation alleging crores of Rupees had exchanged hands and a whopping loss was caused to the state exchequer.
