Mercury dips in region following rain in HP

Chandigarh, Sep 13 (UNI) Rains lashed parts of Himachal Pradesh but eluded Punjab and Haryana since last night, bringing a considerable fall in the temperature in the region.

The maximum temperature was one to four degrees celsius below normal in Punjab and Haryana as the sky remained partially overcast during the day.

Several areas of Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, were lashed by rain, bring a fall the temperature. In the sky was clear over the tribal districts of Kinnuar and Lahaul Spiti where cold-weather conditions prevailed.

Shimla and its adjoining areas experienced cloudy weather during the day. The state capital recorded the maximum temperature at 22.5 degrees celsius, two degrees above normal.

In Punjab, the mercury dropped four degrees celsius below normal at Amritsar recording 29.9 degrees C. The holy town reported trace rainfall overnight. The temperature hovered one degree below normal at Patiala and Ludhiana, respectively recording 33.3 degrees and 33.0 degrees celsius.

In Haryana, Ambala recorded 33.2 degrees which was two degrees below normal while Karnal registered 34.8 degrees, two degrees above normal.

Chandigarh and its adjoining areas also experienced cloudy weather with the playing hide and seek during the day.

The met department predicted moderate to heavy rain or hundershowers at few places in Himachal Pradesh and Punjab and isolated places in Haryana during the next 24 hours.
