Egyptian dredger with 40 crew sinks, some missing
Iismilia (Egypt), Sep 13: An Egyptian dredger sank in the Suez Canal today and some of the 40 crew were reported missing or injured, medical and Suez Canal Authority sources said.
A Canal Authority official said the canal had been closed because of the incident.
No other details were immediately available.
The canal is an important international trade route and a major source of foreign exchange earnings for the Egyptian government. Egypt nationalised the waterway in 1956.
