Debt-stricken farmer commits suicide in Idukki

Idukki, Sep 13 (UNI) A debt-stricken farmer Maprathekken Kanjikuzhi, 62, allegedly committed suicide in the Kanjikuzhi police station limits of this district this morning.

Police said Kanjikuzhi poured kerosene on his body and immolated himself. He is survived by his wife Devaki and four children.

Four years ago, he had reportedly taken a loan of Rs 30,000 from the Thodupuzha Kaarshika Bhoovikasana Bank, which had now swollen up to Rs 75,000, police said.
