Chandigarh, Sep 13 (UNI) The Opposition Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today demanded an immediate CBI probe into the alleged involvement of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in the Rs 3000 crore real estate City Centre scam in Ludhiana.

''The chief minister should resign immediately to clear the decks for an independent and impartial probe'', SAD chief Prakash Singh Badal said while refering to the sting operation conducted by a private TV-channel into the scam.

The largest project of its kind in the country, having a covered area of 45 lakh square feet, had been given the go ahead without proper government sanction, he claimed. The Akali leader alleged that money in crores had exchanged hands and the government was the loser.

''If the CM had even an iota of morality left in him, he should not stick to office for even a moment longer after disclosure of his involvement in corrupt deals,'' he added.

Alleging that the entire scam was conceived, masterminded and executed under the direct supervision of the chief minister in a brute and unabashed display of misuse of power, Mr Badal said that Capt Singh had been associated with this project at every step.

The multi-crore housing-cum-commercial project was proposed to be developed on 25.59 acres of prime land in Ludhiana.A private building company, Today Homes had been allocted the project by the Ludhiana Improvement Trust.
