Shimla, Sep 12 (UNI) Accusing the present Virbhadra Singh Government of being the most corrupt state government ever, former chief minister P K Dhumal said various mafias were ruling the roost in the state and corruption was rampant.

''Besides allegations of corruption in the allotment of industrial plots, recruitment of para teachers, bus conductors, animal husbandry pharmacists and patwaris, illegal mining, education, land and forest mafia are ruling roost in the state,'' BJP's weekly Organiser quoted him as saying in an interview.

Mr Dhumal, the only non-Congress chief minister to complete his full term from 1998 to 2003, said not a single promise made to the people during the last assembly elections by the present Congress government has been honoured.

The Congress, which returned to power in 2003, on the promise to provide jobs to at least one member of each family, had failed miserably in the last three and a half years and had abolished several hundred posts apart from the 40,000 lying vacant, he said.

He also said the pace of development had slowed down after the Congress government came to power in the state.

Claiming that the Congress would suffer its worst defeat in the state whenever next assembly or parliamentary elections are held, he said, almost every section of the society was disenchanted with the performance of this government.

''The BJP will return to power with a spectacular victory whenever elections are held. It is just a matter of time,'' he added.

Denying any factionalism between the state BJP, he said every party worker and leader was united to fight and defeat the Congress, whenever, elections were held.
