Suspected diamond thief commits suicide

Surat, Sep 12 (UNI) A manager in a city-based diamond unit, who had allegedly absconded with Rs 25 lakh worth of diamonds and Rs 15 lakh in cash, commited suicide in Mumbai.

Police had tracked down Arvind Deora in Mumbai but, upon realising that his game was up, the man committed suicide, police said. Deora's body was brought to Surat this evening.

The owner of the diamond unit had reported the theft to the police and it was suspected that Deora was the culprit. It was discovered that Deora had eloped with his girl friend. Both of them were later traced in Mumbai, police said.
