Notices against senior BJP ministers in Sohela shootout
Jaipur, Sep 12 (UNI) The commission, probing the Sohela police shootout in which five farmers were killed last year, has asked two senior BJP ministers and a government official to be present before it within seven days.
The Commission has served notices to Irrigation Minister Sanwar Lal Jat, Panchayati Raj Minister Kalu Lal Gurjar and Irrigation Secretary S N Thanvi to file their, affidavits within seven days.
On June 13, last year, the police fired on protesting farmers killing five of them and injuring 21 others in Sohela in Tonk district.
The agitating farmers were demanding water from the Bisalpur dam, which once completed will provide water to the state capital and other areas. The farmers felt Tonk district was being denied its rightful share of water.
The farmers under the Bisalpur Kisan Sangharsh Samiti continue to hold regular sit-ins at the Tonk district headquarters protesting against the police firing.
Advocate Ajay Kumar Jain of the People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), fighting for the farmers, said the then District Collector of Tonk Subhash Bhargav has made it clear in his statements that Mr Jat and Mr Gurjar and irrigation secretary Mr Thanvi had turned a deaf ear to the repeated phone calls made by him to come and talk to the farmers on June 24 last year.
