Norms to be relaxed in K'taka for issuance of ration cards
Bangalore, Sep 12 (UNI) Karnataka Food and Civil Supplies Minister Govind Karjol today said his Ministry proposed to relax the norms for issuing ration cards to Below Poverty Line families for bringing more people under the category.
Talking to reporters here, he said the proposed changes would provide for issuance of BPL cards to persons who also own two-wheelers and cell phones, with an annual income of less than Rs 12,000. He would place the proposals before the Cabinet meet, to be held tomorrow, for its approval, he added.
The Minister said that following the addition of six lakh families to the present 64 lakh under the BPL category in the State, the Government would face an extra burden of Rs 100 crore per year as food subsidy.
