Chandigarh, Sep 12 (UNI) Punjab and Haryana High Court today issued fresh notices for November six to two Punjab police officers who were pardoned by the state Governor after they had been convicted and sentenced for custodial killing during militancy in the state.

The orders to serve fresh notices were issued by the division bench of the acting Chief Justice Harjit Singh Bedi and Justice Ranjit Singh during resumed hearing on the PIL of Lawyers for Human Rights International.

Two police officers Jaspal Singh and Swaran Dass had been sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment and life imprisonment respectively but were pardoned later by the Governor.

The PIL wanted the officers to serve their prison terms while arguing that sentences handed down to them were rather inadequate compared to their crime.
