Guj Cong flays Modi for calling only a 2-day assembly session
Gandhinagar, Sep 12 (UNI) The Gujarat Congress has flayed Chief Minister Narendra Modi for calling only a two-day Monsoon Session of the State Assembly from September 18.
Leader of Opposition Arjun Modhwadia, in a statement here today, said the Congress said will protest the ''willful stifling of democracy'' by Mr Modi.
Mr Modhwadia, who held a meeting with Congress MLAs today, said the session should be at least for a 15-day period to allow for a discussion on the recent floods and other issues.
Ridiculing the Gujarat Government's decision to hold only a two-day Monsoon Session, Mr Modhvadia noted that other states held the session for much longer periods -- Maharashtra legislature will be hold the session for 18 days, Madhya Pradesh for 23 days, Karnataka for 19 days, West Bengal for 20 days, Kerala for 15 days, Rajasthan - 9 days, Pondicherry - 23 days, Uttaranchal - 18 days, Tamil Nadu - 48 days and Andhra Pradesh for 30 days.
Mr Modhvadia said during the Congress regime in the State, the Monsoon Session always used to be for a period ranging from ten to 25 days. However, since the BJP assumed power, the period has been cutailed, he alleged.
