Sirsi, Karnataka, Sep 12 (UNI) Former Prime Minister and JD (S) President H D Deve Gowda today urged the Centre to strengthen the security measures in the country to check the increasing terrorist activities, which had led to a ''shameful and dangerous'' situation.

Addressing a press conference here, he alleged that the ''inefficiency'' of the Union Home Minister was the main cause for increasing terrorism in the country.

On the border row with Maharashtra, Mr Gowda reiterated that ''it is already a closed matter. Maharashtra is raising this issue unnecessarily. (Late Prime Minister) Morarji Desai was telling that the border dispute was a closed matter and don't talk again about it.'' To a question about the proposed Tadadi Ultra Mega Thermal Power Project in Uttara Kannada district, he said the JD(S)-BJP Government in Karnataka should discuss the matter and find an amicable solution. There was no problem in establishing the project at Tadadi in view of the developments in the State and the country. One should cash in on the natural resources for the development of the country, he suggested.
