Governor launches Goa chapter of Sarvodaya International Trust

Panaji, Sep 12 (UNI) Governor S C Jamir today launched the Goa chapter of Sarvodaya International Trust at a function held at Raj Bhavan to help promote Gandhian values of peace, tolerance and non-violence.

The Governor also released a book, ''Gandhi's Outstanding Leadership'', authored by Pascol Alan Nazareth, who is also the managing trustee of the organisation. Goa is the eighth chapter of the trust.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed serious concern over the modern society's ''scant respect to the ideals of truth and non-violence, preached and practised by Mahatma Gandhi with the very soil on which he took birth witnessing much violence and bloodshed recently''.

''Today, the nation is faced with unprecedented challenges of religious intolerance, communalism, fundamentalism, terrorism, extremism and violence, indicating the degeneration of high moral and human values like truth, ahimsa, spirit of universal brotherhood and human service.'' ''Unless and until these fundamentalist and fascist forces are dealt with strongly, they would continue to act as the stumbling blocks in our path towards the all round progress of the country,'' he added.

In this connection, Mr Nazareth called for launching a ''war against injustice and spreading the message of peace and non-violence'' while chief secretary J P Singh pleaded for promoting communal harmony and Gandhian ideals including motivation to perform one's duties.
