Gaza gunmen clash with Israeli soldiers

Gaza, Sep 12: Palestinian gunmen fought gunbattles with Israeli soldiers inside the Gaza Strip today, witnesses said.

They said Israeli soldiers backed by tanks had moved into an area in Central Gaza just after dawn. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

The clash came one day after Palestinian factions agreed to form a unity government to try to end Western sanctions imposed on the Hamas-led administration because of its refusal to recognise Israel and renounce violence.
