DRI intelligence shot dead in asom

Guwahati, Sep 12 (UNI) Senior officer of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) T K Dutta was shot dead tonight when soon after he emerged from his office at Chandmari area near here.

The incident occurred at around 2100 hours when Mr Dutta, an expert in busting the narcotic trade, stepped out of the office. He was shot from close range five times. He died on way to hospital, police added.

Dutta had recently busted a narcotic trade and seizwed huge amount of contrabad goods.

Intelligence official and police suspect that contract killers were assigned by the drug cartel to eliminate the sleuth.

Mr Dutta, 48, was know for his daredavil assault against criminals.

This is the first major non-insurgency related crime in Guwahati city in past one year.
