Chembur Gymkhana emerge champs

Mumbai, Sep 12 (UNI) Chembur Gymkhana swamped Malabar Hill Club 3-0 to emerge champions in the Sandesh Memorial Mumbai Billiards&Snooker League at the Garware Club House here today.

Tushar Dighen gave Chembur Gymkhana a dream start with a 100-75 win over Kunal Gandhi in the opening billiards tie.

India star Aditya Mehta (scr) then survived a scare to clinch a thrilling 77-68 win over Malabar skipper Rajeev Sharma (+50) to give Chembur Gymkhana a 2-0 lead. Sharma frittered away a 68-59 lead in a close contest before Mehta returned to clinch the tie.

Derek Sippy and Vimal Thakkar (+48) sealed Chembur Gymkhana's victory with an exciting 108-85 win over Aditya Kapur and Adil Engineer (+55) in the doubles.

Earlier, in the afternoon, Chembur Gymkhana beat Central Railway Mechanical Institute 'B' (CRMI) in the semi-finals.
