Vadodara, Sep 12 (UNI) Local BJP leader Ambu Patel, who is accused of looting important files from the town planning department of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC), continued to evade arrest for the second day today.

Police, which has registered an offence on the basis of a complaint lodged by VMC commissioner Rohit Pathak said the accused had gone underground to evade arrest.

Patel, said to be having a good lobby with the party high command, allegedly broke open the town development officer A G Muzumdar's cabin yesterday and forcibly took away about 15 important files despite opposition by the staff members.

The BJP leader seemed to have taken the step after he failed to persuade the department to take action against an illegal structure in a posh area of the city.

The incident however, had caused a major embarrassment for the ruling BJP in VMC. Mayor Sunil Solanki and other senior corporators and party leaders were reportedly trying to find a peaceful settlement of the issue.
