Tight vigil to prevent any LTTE infiltration: SP

Written by: Staff

Rameswaram (Tamil Nadu), Sep 11: Security personnel are maintaining a round-the-clock vigil to prevent any infiltration bid by the cadre of the banned Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) in the guise of Tamil refugees, Superintendent of Police Mahindra Kumar Rathod has said.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr Rathod said the Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Customs and Coastal Wing police were on a 24-hour-alert to prevent any such infiltration attempts.

The move comes in the wake of increasing number of Tamil refugees from strife-torn Sri Lanka arriving in South India.

On their landing, the refugees were thoroughly screened before being sent to camps, the police official said.
