Sensex opens strong, trades low at 11,774.32

Mumbai, Sep 11: The BSE Sensex today opened 39 points in the green as the benchmark Asian indices traded weak.

Currently, the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) Sensitive Index (Sensex) is trading 144 points down at 11,774.32 compared to the previous close of 11,918 points.

Key benchmark Asian indices like Hong Kong and Japan were down from 0.2 to 0.95 per cent.

Amongst sectoral indices on the BSE, all the sectors were trading down in red led by metals sector which was down by 2.65 per cent, Bankex was down by 1.21 per cent, FMCG by 1.38 per cent and oil and gas was down by 1.17 per cent.

Major gainers on the index were Hero Honda up by 1.92 per cent, HDFC up by 0.39 per cent, Satyam Computers, Satyam Computers up by 0.14 per cent and Reliance Communications up by 0.13 per cent.

Besides the losers were Hindalco down 4.13 per cent, Reliance Energy 3.30 per cent, HLL down by 3.09 per cent, HDFC Bank down by 2.91 per cent, Tata Steel down by 2.81 per cent, Tata Motors down by 2.56 per cent, Reliance Industries down by 2.29 per cent, Maruti Udyog down by 2.21 per cent, Ranbaxy Lab down by 2.10 per cent and Cipla down by 2.10 per cent.
