Samresh Jung shoots more than Olympic record in trials

Indore, Sep 11 (UNI) After a string of poor shows, ace marksman Samresh Jung finally seems to have got his mojo back and India's Goldfinger shot more than the exisiting Olympic record in 10m Air Rifle at the selection trials for the Asian Games here today.

Jung shot a score of 691.6 (591+100.6) to win the event by more than a 10-point margin and this is the highest score by an Indian so far in the 10m Air Pistol event.

Jung shot a series of 98,99,99,100,99 and 96 to tally 591 in the qualifications and then shot 100.6 in the finals. Jung's score is more than the Olympic record of 690 created by Wang Yifu of China at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

Deepak Sharma finished second behind Jung with a score of 681.2 (581+100.2) while Zakhir Khan finished third at 676.1 (575+101.1).

In the 10m Air Pistol women event, Harveen Srao came first with a score of 480.2 (383+97.2), followed by Sonia Rai(478.1) and Shweta Chowdhary (477).

In the women's 50m Rifle Prone event, Meena Kumari finished first with a score of 594, while Deepali Deshpande (591) came second and Rajkumari (588) stood third.
