India-Myanmar to discuss border issues

New Delhi, Sep 11 (UNI) The 12th national-level meeting of the Home Secretaries of India and Myanmar would be held here for four days from September 13 to discuss border issues.

Home Secretary V K Duggal will lead the Indian delegation, while the Myanmar side would be headed by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Brigadier General Phone Swe.

These meetings are held annually to discuss various issues related to maintenance of peace and tranquility along the India-Myanmar border.

The issues, likely to be discussed at the meeting, include action against Indian Insurgent Groups (IIGs) present in the territory of Myanmar and effective border management.

Steps needed to curb smuggling of arms and ammunition and illicit trafficking in narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances will also figure in the discussions. In addition, the progress of various cross-border projects over which the two countries have agreed to cooperate will also be reviewed.
