Girl killed, huts destroyed in fire

Chennai, Sep 11 (UNI) An 18-year-old girl was charred to death and about 40 huts gutted in a fire at Theedir Nagar here this morning.

Police said Pachaiyammal, allegedly committed suicide by setting herself afire after dousing herself with kerosene following a quarrel with her husband and in-laws.

Fire and Rescue Services Deputy Director V Madura Pandiyan told newspersons that fire engines were pressed into service.

The extent of the loss yet to be estimated, he added.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Pachaiyammal's husband, mother-in-law and sister-in-law the police said.
