Purulia, Sep 11 (UNI) Coming down heavily on the Centre, West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee today warned that the Left Front might withdraw support if the UPA failed to checkmate the soaring prices of essentials commodities.

Addressing an election rally here, Mr Bhattacharjee averred that the support of the Left Front could not be taken for granted.

''The survival of the UPA government hinges much on the 61 members of the Left, '' the Chief Minister remarked.

Dwelling that the state had made remarkable progress on every sector under the Left Front regime, Mr Bhattacharjee asserted that the Front extended support to the UPA as there was no better alternative for government formation at the Centre.

''The Congress lacks proper policies, moral and principles. Still we are supporting them at the Centre to prevent the BJP from coming to power,'' he said.

He claimed that the party would retain Purulia and Katwa and win the Malda Lok Sabha seats.
