Mizoram records 90.14 literacy percentage
Aizawl, Sep 10: Mizoram Education Minister Lalthangliana here today announced that the state has recorded 90.14 per cent literacy rate.
Stating this at the international literacy day function, the minister appealed to the people to participate in the programme for promotion of adult education so as to achieve highest literacy rate in the country by 2006.
He said the literacy rate during 2004-2006 was 61.27 per cent.
Dr Lalthangliana, quoting 'India Today' magazine, said the state has been rated first among the 12 eastern states to have the highest literacy rate.
''High literacy per cent alone is not the criteria for development of a state'', he added.
The state is trailing with just 0.75 per cent behind Kerala, which has the highest literacy rate in the country.
