Cops suspended for suspected custodial death

Kochi, Sep 10 (UNI) Three policemen of the Kunnathunad station here were suspended following the suspected custodial death of a 52-year-old man.

Central Zone Deputy Inspector General K Padmakumar last night ordered the suspension of ASI Harihara Kumar, Head Constables Abraham and Kochaniyan, based on a preliminary investigation report by City Police Commissioner P Vijayan.

According to police, the man Saju was taken into custody yesterday morning by a patrolling team from Pattimattom under suspicious circumstances, with some stolen goods.

Saju fainted at the station in the evening and was immediately taken to a local hospital in Kolencherry where he was declared dead, police added.
