Akbar, Gaurav steal limelight

Coimbatore, Sep 10 (UNI) Veteran Akbar Ebrahim and Gaurav Gill shared the honours in a Formula Rolon Double delight in the second leg of the JK national Road Racing championship at the Kari Motor Speedway here today.

With India's first F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan watching the races, the Formula Rolon Cheverolet cars, introduced by him for his Team Narain, blazed the track with nail biting finishes which kept the huge crowd enthralled.

Pole leader Akbar Ebrahim of Team NK was off to a brilliant start in Race 1 but had to contend to second place in grid. Delhi racer and rally champion Gaurav Gill of Team Wallace Sports Leela gave him a hot chase.

Akbar held on to the lead in a fascinating duel till misfortune struck him in the form of broken drive shaft forcing Akbar out of the race. This propelled Gaurav Gill into the lead and he had no problems in taking the chequered flag. Chennai racer Gaurav Dalal of Prime Racing finished second.

Although last year's junior karting champion from Hyderabad and Team Speed NK Racing did well to finish third, he was excluded after being found to be underweight. This brought Rayomand Banajee to the third place. Gaurav Gill clocked the fastest lap timing of 01:09:8.
