Chennai, Sep 9 (UNI) Condemning the blasts in Malegaon town of Maharashtra in which 38 people were killed and 150 injured, Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today alleged that the UPA government at the Centre appeared to be bereft of ideas to combat terrorism.

In a statement here, he said the blasts confirmed that the Centre lacked a counter-terrorist strategy.

''Prime Minister Manmohan Singh informed the nation that there are ''sleeper cells of terrorists'' and that ''more terrorist explosions are likely''. However, he had failed to tell what he proposes to do about it'', Dr Swamy charged.

Claiming that the UPA was bankrupt of ideas on combating terrorism, he said this would create a weak permissive society and lead to a spiral of violence.
