Sai, Lakshmi win Asian Chess titles

Vijayawada, Sep 9 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh's Lakshmi Sahiti in the girls section and Sai Srinivas in the boy's category bagged the gold and silver medals, respectively in the under-16 Asian Youth Chess Championship which concluded in Kyrgyzstan today.

Talking to UNI, Srinivas's father D A V V Prasad said top players from various countries had participated in the tournament which began on september three.

Lakshmi Sahiti bagged the gold by securing seven points while srinivas scored equal points from nine rounds, while four games ended in a draw, he said.

He said in the boy's section, the gold medal was bagged by a Kyrgyzstan player who secured 7.5 points, while Tamil Nadu's Sethuraman won bronze with 6.5 points.

Mr.Prasad said Srinivas won this next assignment would be the world under-16 Youth Chess Championship to be held in Georgia from October 18-29 in which Rohit and Sandeep of Andhra Pradesh would also participate along with him.

In the girl's section Lakshmi Sahiti and Ramya Krishna of Andhra Pradesh would also compete in the forthcoming world youth championship, Mr Prasad added.
