Russian mine fire death toll rises to 21 - Ifax

MOSCOW, Sep 9 (Reuters) Russian rescuers today found five more dead men at a burning gold mine in Siberia, bringing the death toll from the fire to 21, Interfax news agency reported, citing the an emergencies ministry official.

The agency said the fate of four remaining miners who have been trapped underground for more than two days remained unknown.

The fire broke out on Thursday after welding work deep in the central shaft of the Darasun mine, in the remote Chita region of Eastern Siberia near the Chinese border.
