Relief to officers in Tricolour case

Jaipur, Sept 9: A court here provided interim relief to three government officers accused of insulting the Tricolour, just hours before their arrest warrant deadline expired yesterday.

SP (South) Vishal Bansal, ADM (Jaipur South) Jagdish Bhadu and city SDM R S Sharma had moved anticipatory bail appilcations in a Special Court yesterday, which ordered that the officers were not to be arrested till a decision is pronounced on their bail applications.

The court directed that hearing on anticipatory bail would continue on Monday.

The special court granted relief to the three officers before their appeal in the High Court could come up for hearing.

Non-bailable arrest warrants were issued against officers on September 1 by ACJM court after a writ petition was filed by advocate Kamlesh Sharma that they deliberately stepped on the national flag and insulted it on the Independence Day this year.

It has been alleged that the officers were trying to stop activists of social organisations who wanted to hoist the national flag at SMS stadium on August 15.

The organisations were protesting against the state government's decision to hold the main celebrations in Udaipur instead of Jaipur this year.
