Prophet's image causes agitation

Moradabad, Sep 9 (UNI) A purported image of Prophet Mohammad in a book enraged the students and teachers of a madarsa in the neighbouring Jyotibaphula Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh, police today said.

The image appeared under lesson 'Mehnat Ki Kamai' on page number 18 of the book titled 'Sukh Ka Sapna' -- prescribed as a part of the 'Satat Shiksha Abhiyaan' curriculum.

Enraged students and teachers of 'madarsa' Islamia Turkia in village Hariana -- accompanied by members of the Muslim community -- blocked the national highway after Friday prayers yesterday.

Demanding the arrest of the books' publisher, they also burnt him in effigy.

Later, senior police officials pacified the mob, assuring action in this regard. A memorandum was also handed over to the authorities by the agitators.
