NSUI demands ban on ABVP
Bhopal, Sep 9 (UNI) National Students Union of India's Madhya Pradesh unit Secretary Sunil Upadhyaya today started indefinite hunger strike here demanding ban on ABVP and CBI inquiry into the death of Prof H S Sabharwal during students violence in Ujjain on August 26.
Along with Mr Upadhyaya, about 50 NSUI workers also started relay hunger strike at the MPCC office premises here, PCC General Secretary Manak Agrawal said.
Congress, earlier, organised state-wide bandh to press for CBI inquiry into Ujjain incidents.
Prof Sabharwal died at the Madhav College premises after he was assaulted by a group of students agitated over abrupt postponement of students union elections boycotted by the NSUI demanding direct election. For about 45 posts, only 5 nominations, all by ABVP leaders, had been filed.
Following outcry that the guilty were being shielded, the state government ordered CID inquiry and ABVP's state president Shashi Ranjan Akela and Organsing Secretary Vimal Tomar had been arrested on murder charge. Both were later removed from the posts.
