No one can come between him and farmers: AP CM

Hyderabad, Sep 9 (UNI) Brushing aside the Telangana Rashtra Samiti's reported threat to gherao Ministers and Congress MLAs, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy today maintained that nobody could create a wedge between him and the farmers.

Dismissing the TRS threat as a mere political charge requiring no counter from the Congress government, Dr Reddy told newspersons that farmers very well aware of the Government's sincere efforts to ameliorate their conditions.

''No party can come between the farmers and the Government,'' he said while replying to the TRS claim that the Congress regime witnessed more number of suicides by farmers than during the previous TDP rule.

Dr Reddy, who held talks with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar, said no injustice would be meted out to any section of farmers when the special package for the districts with high incidence of suicide was finalised.

Replying to a question, he said the State Government was pressing for waiver of interest on loans advanced by Coopeerative Banks which had included the interest part in the principal amount while rescheduling their loans.

Under the Central package, milch animals would be provided 50 per cent subsidy, drip irrigation facility at 60 per cent subsidy, besides ensuring 100 per cent seed replacement on farms to improve productivity, he informed.

The State would get from the Centre over 10 per cent of the cost of irrigation projects for which the Central Water Commission had given its clearance to provide assured water to farmers in rain-fed areas who were subjected to vagaries of monsoons.

Stating that eight districts were experiencing drought, he said the State Government would press for liberal assistance from the Centre after getting detailed reports from the District Collectors concerned.
