Monsoon remains active in HP

Chandigarh, Sep 9 (UNI) Moderate rain was reported in several areas in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh as monsoon remained active in the hilly state during the past 24 hours.

Rains lashed several areas in Punjab overnight with Balachour receiving 19.2 mm downpour, followed by Nangal Dam site recording 4.2 mm, Shahpur Kandi 3.0 mm and Madopur, near Pathankot, 2.0 mm rainfall.

However, rains eluded Haryana with no report of rainfall activity received from anywhere from the state by the weather office here.

Moderate to heavy rain lashed many areas in Himachal Pradesh, including mid and lower hills, triggering fresh landslides in the state. Some areas in Kangra and Mandi districts reported heavy rainfall.

Sujanpur Tira was the wettest place in Himachal Pradesh, recording 77.0 mm rain till this morning, followed by Bharthin measuring 54.8 mm, Sundernagar 44.6 mm, Guler 44.2 mm and Nahan 10.0 mm. Naudan, Suni, Pandoh, Kasol, Nagrota Surian and Kahu areas also experienced rainfall.

Shimla and its adjoining areas were lashed by rainfall with the capital town recording 1.6 mm downpour till this morning. Upper areas of Shimla district, including tourist sites of Wildflower Hall, Kufri, Naldehra and Narkanda, also had rainfall forcing tourists to stay indoors.

Chandigarh, enveloped in monsoon clouds, was lashed by rain during the day. The city recorded trace rainfall overnight.

The Met Office predicted moderate to rather heavy rain or thundershowers at many places in Himachal Pradesh and few places in Haryana and Punjab during the next 48 hours. It warned of heavy rain at isolated places in Himachal Pradesh and north and north-eastern parts of Punjab and north-eastern parts of Haryana during the next 24 hours.
