MERF launches special clinic therapy for stammering patients

Chennai, Sept 9 (UNI) The City-based MERF (Madras ENT Research Foundation) Institute of speech and hearing has launched special clinic treatment therapy for stammering or stuttering patients, according to founder of the Institute and eminent ENT Surgeon Mohan Kameswaran.

Talking to newspersons here yesterday, he pointed out that the problem is not restricted only to speech or communication, it also affects other spheres of life like education, personality development, professional growth, and interpersonal relations.

Dr Mohan Kameswaran said the problem of stuttering is on the rise owing to increasing pressure, tension, anxiety at school, workplace and also in personal lives. Such individuals required special professional help, he added.

He said some might require multi-professional help. To meet out such requirement, the Institute has established this special clinic, with an aim to provide specialised and individualised therapy programmes for people with stuttering so that they could get back to normal life.

He said this type of disorder is characterised by disruptions in the production of speech sounds. More interestingly, this order is curable and correctable, provided the patient gets a proper treatment, he added.
