Indian cricket team Analyst launches SportsMechanics Pvt Ltd

Chennai, Sep 9: Raising the level of application of software technology to improve the skills and level of performance by several notches, Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid launched a SportsMechanics India Pvt Ltd, a new venture by the team Analyst S Ramakrishnan for application of latest sports technologies using the talent of experienced sportspersons.

At a colourful function here last night, attended by the Indian team bound for Malaysia for the tri-series, coach Greg Chappel, Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag also lit the traditional lamp to launch the new venture.

While Dravid, Chappel, Sachin and Sehwag narrated succinctly and humerously how ''Ramki's'' analysis through his innovative software to detect the shortcomings in technique, has been helping them to better their performance on the field, Ramakrishnan said the vision of 'SportsMechanichs' would provide a pltform for sportspersons with an alternate career within their chosen domain.

The company would provide Marketing Software Products for performance Analysis and Coaching, services for video and match analysis for television and non televised environments,training and support for coaches, trainers and physios, and consluting services for effective design and delivery of sports administration, he explained.

''I did not believe that computers and laptops had a place in the dressing room. The batsman and bowler know what he is doing. But Ramki made us believe that a laptop is very much part of the scheme of things in cricket'', Sachin said, welcoming the new venture.

Praising Ramakrishnan for having been part of the Indian team since 2003, team India captain Rahul Dravid said the former's ''background contribution with the use of technology for improvement, has been commendable.'' ''He is a sounding board, very respected and well liked by the team'', Dravid, added.

Coach Greg Chappel also hailed ''Ramki''s contribution as a crucial link in the team's support staff. '' His software and hardware is an important part of what I do to support the players'', the former Aussie captain said.

The team's vice captain Sehwag recalled how ''Ramki'' contributed to correcting his technique and scoring a triple century in a Test match after failing in the ODI, on the Pakistan tour. ''His software revealed that my feet were too wide apart and the head was falling'', the Delhi batsman recalled.

Chariman of the selection Committee Kiran More, national selector V B Chandrasekhar and former India captain K Srikkanth, were among the few cricketing fraternity who also attended the launch.
